Nigeria secured a vital victory in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign after defeating Rwanda 1-0. Tolu Arokodare’s 51st minute goal earned Nigeria a much needed win over Rwanda to continue the pursuit for a spot in next year’s FIFA World Cup.

The goal proved to be the difference, with Nigeria’s backline, marshalled by vice-captain William Troost-Ekong, holding firm against late pressure from the Rwandans. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali also pulled off a crucial save in stoppage time to preserve the win.

The result lifts Nigeria to the top half of the group standings third position in Group C with 10 points – one below Benin Republic and six behind group leaders and next opponent, South Africa.

The Super Eagles will now face South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Bloemfontein in a crunch game on Tuesday.
